A Diamond Select press release just rolled across my desk (and across their website team’s desk too, it seems). Seems our favorite little mini-figures are getting some wheels in the upcoming year:
New Minimate Vehicles Line in 2010!
One of the most frequent questions we get from fans of our Minimates lines inquires about the possibility of Minimate vehicles from their favorite pop culture properties. Earlier this year we launched our first foray into Mini-Vehicles with the Mark VII Viper and Cylon Raider from the hit sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica and now that we’ve tested the waters, the Mini-Vehicle line is ready to go into overdrive!
Projected for a Spring 2010 release, our debut assortment of Mini-Vehicles features some of the most iconic and memorable rides of all time combined with exclusive Minimate releases sure to thrill kids of all ages! Each vehicle is in perfect Minimate scale for two Minimate passengers and also includes a bonus Minimate – all either new versions of your favorite characters or exclusive Minimate debuts!
The first three rides to be included in this exciting line will be Back to the Future’s post-time-travel Frozen DeLorean, Terminator 2′s devastating Battle Damaged Hunter Killer Tank and a Minimates debut – the Minimates M.A.X. Red Stealth Jet! Fans should be familiar with those first two, while the Minimates M.A.X. (Mobile Action Xtreme) brand is new to DST and will feature an array of vehicles designed entirely by Art Asylum.
A complementary wave of Minimates Vehicles will also appear in Toys R Us stores nationwide this spring, including alternate versions of each vehicle and new Minimate pilots for each release. Series 1 will include a time-bending DeLorean, an undamaged Hunter Killer Tank and a black version of the Minimates M.A.X. Stealth Jet.
Whether tampering with the timeline, battling human resistance fighters or sneaking across enemy lines; these planes, trains and automobiles push the limits of the Minimates brand like never before. Look for more information on this stunning new line during next year’s American International Toy Fair and keep your eyes peeled for more exciting news and announcements in the coming months from Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum!

Uhh . . . yeah.
I guess the MAX jet is okay. . . ?

Yeah, the super-deformed look may not be a lot of people’s cup of tea, but personally I’m excited to get these cute little buggers.
Strange, I think I just heard the “Pimp My Ride” theme playing in my head.

:\
I’m mixed about this. I’m glad they are doing this, but I guess I prefer my DeLorean to not look like an SUV!?!?!?!
I would prefer more generic cars and mates (ambulance with medic, police car with cop, bike with rider) that I can use for scenes with my Marvel mates. more “civilian” mates would be fun, ala Lego.
December 16th, 2009 - 11:11 AM
Is it just me, or does that look more like a jeep then a DeLorean?
December 16th, 2009 - 11:14 AM
Hmmm… wonder what else Art Asylum will come up w/ for the MAX vehicles…. tho it doesn’t look much like a DeLorean and I don’t remember the killer tank in T2… these look fun tho
December 16th, 2009 - 3:20 PM
Funny, I always thought those flying machines in T2 were called Hunter Killers. I guess there are air and ground versions.
The M.A.X. Jets look awesome.
While not as cool as the Sunstar or Welly versions, these Mini DeLoreans do have a certain charm.

when i read the title my mind ran off straight away to ghost rider, ah well
its a start at least
December 16th, 2009 - 8:21 PM
So close, yet so far…
Something is better than nothing, I guess, but still… way too cartoony, at least as far as the car goes.
The jet is awesome, but I still want an X-Jet or Avenger’s Quinjet — something that holds at least five or six mates. The F4 Fantasticar might be a good one to make, as it already has a cartoon look to it(and we sure could use an update to Marvel’s First Family as well)…
The robot thingy is fine, too, I guess. I’m not into Terminator myself, but it’ll work as a Danger Room bot or what have you.
Nice to see them really branching out and giving a little bit of everything straight out of the gate. Can’t wait to see where this goes…
December 16th, 2009 - 11:46 PM
The return of Micro-tron from the Micronauts!!!(the robot) Plus…I will take a Ghost Rider Cycle, no doubt!
December 17th, 2009 - 10:20 AM
thinking of the size of the Battlestar flyers if the Ghost Rider cycle is done then it would have to be a two-pack, maybe Ghost Rider and Vengeance?
December 17th, 2009 - 11:31 AM
Vengeance…maybe, but i’d prefer a 70′s hellcycle and 90′s hellcycle combination!
Unfortunately i doubt we’ll ever see ‘official’ Marvel Minimate vehicles…
Maybe the best we can hope for is a generic “demon cycle” and “high tech flight glider”. Maybe a “Terrific-car” with an optional number “4″ sticker…
Paying attention, Luke?
December 18th, 2009 - 2:59 AM
uh ECTO-1 HELLO!
CLASSIC BSG VIPER’s and RAIDERS!
December 18th, 2009 - 6:50 AM
ECTO-1 would be cool, but how will the Busters fit in it with those proton packs strapped/fused to their back?
December 19th, 2009 - 6:03 PM
I hope we see the Terminator and Ghost Rider’s Motorcycles appearing soon!
December 22nd, 2009 - 1:37 PM
I love the jet.. Quinjets, Javelins and Blackbirds a plenty!!
The car from back to the future would have been my #1 request.. and I am hoping it looks a little better in person.. just a bit less squashed would have been better.. but I am still really excited about this news. As for the robot.. how is that a vehicle?
