Shipping Update

December 2nd, 2009

The happy gang over at Art Asylum have seen fit to update the release schedule for their many wares. So, we’ve combed through all the Marvel Select and Ultimate Quarter Scale stuff to find for you all the Minimate release dates that are currently on the books.

The biggest news is that we’ve likely seen the last of the Minimates for this year, since the next on the list, Marvel series 31 and 32, have been pushed back to early January. This will come as relief to some and frustration to others.

Back on the list is the Minimate Labs playset, with an early February release date.

Marvel series 33 is slated for a late February release.

Then there’s the Spider-Man’s Friends and Foes box set, slated for a mid March release.

Finally, there’s the Ghost Busters box set #3, with a late March release.

Beverly Hills Cop and Godfather continue to sit the bench, waiting for their chance to hit shelves, but without more fan support, I doubt we’ll see a release date for these.

Still looking for a wide release is the Ghost Busters Video Game box set. Originally an Amazon exclusive, then an SDCC exclusive, this set now waits to hit the shelves in more retail areas. It was recently spotted as a preorder on Toys R Us’s website, but it has magically disappeared.

Sir Not-Appearing-on-this-List is Marvel series 34, which is still freshly unveiled and won’t likely have a release date nailed down for a few weeks yet.

Then, there’s the Toys R Us release schedule, where your guess is as good as mine.

It’s strange to me that series 33 is being released all by itself. When was the last time that happened?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If the Spirit comic book set can’t find a home, then I don’t want to see Beverly Hills Cop or the Godfather either. I reject the notion that the latter would outsell the former. Reject it, I say!

    @Hellpop

Chatter amongst the community seems to suggest that DST is trying to space the shipments out a bit more than they have in the past, so as not to bankrupt all of us. Marvel series 33 & 34 seem to be the first released under this new initiative.

And I suspect we won’t see Beverly Hills Cop or Godfather at all. They’ll likely join The Spirit, Rocky III, Street Fighter II series 2, BSG series 5 & 6, New Caprica, 24 series 3, Speed Racer series 2, Lord of the Rings series 3, and countless others on the Isle of Misfit Toys. For the record, we keep Kelloggs, I, Robot, and Doctor Who on a separate Isle, since those failed to reach us due to license issues rather than lack of preorders.

I’ll buy the Godfather ‘Mates. Heck, I bought Desperately Seeking Susan…

I really want those Beverly Hills Cop ones, though. Like, REALLY want.

I like this spacing-out idea, means I can save up and not spend money on minimates instead of other things (who needs to eat anyway?) tho I only plan on getting one of the 33 sets…hasn’t happened since wave 30…31, 32, and the spidey box set are gonna be headin my way as soon as I see em’ on Amazon. 29 is already in-flight as we speak.

Would that be on the Isle of Amazonian Warriors or the Isle of Beautiful Men?

I don’t mind the spacing either. I’m one of the few collectors that usually tries to do that, it seems. My comics shop has gotten all the new releases in over the last two Wednesdays; last week I bought the IG box, this week the Moon Knight/DD pack. And next week I’ll buy another. I like being able to buy one new set a week and enjoy it, rather then having a whole bunch to absorb at once. Of course, I’m lucky because I’m clearly the most dedicated (crazed?) Minimate fan in my area, so I don’t have to worry about not finding them next week. I usually get the variants, for example (although I didn’t want either this time around). And that changes if there are more then one set that I’m just desperate for. Anyway, yeah, space ‘em out.

“Monty Python and the Holy Grail” jokes never get old.

I would like to see the Beverly Hills Cop and Godfather sets released, but if they don’t have release dates we can’t place preorders. How else can we show some support for these?

And does anyone know what happened to the Ghost Busters Video Game box set?

It was released as an SDCC exclusive, and was available through Diamond’s Previews magazine a few weeks later.
