On a regular basis, the gang over at Art Asylum compile questions from their fans and present them to DSTChuck in a segment they call Ask DST.
In the 59th installment, the topic of conversation is everyone’s favorite line of 2-inch figures. Here are the highlights:
- Once a series of figures is produced and shipped, that series is retired. New assortments of the same figures are possible, but no straight-up rerelease.
- No plans to change Minimate sizes.
- No plans for Alien vs. Predator.
- Always possible for more “Through the Ages” box sets, but none planned at the moment.
- Possibility of a “Gooey Peter” head or hair piece.
- Army building single packs have not performed as well as hoped, so DST is cautious about going that route with the Marvel line, though it is possible.
- No plans for Tron.
- Still no takers on carrying Minimates internationally.
- Marvel’s monsters are always possible, but tooling costs would be one issue in making it happen. None planned right now.
- Disney deal with Marvel is not final, but would likely not impact the line. Howard the Duck is always possible, regardless.
- DST’s plan with Ghost Busters was to strike a balance between the main cast and secondary fun characters.
- DST has had some debate on Anti-Venom’s chest. DST is aware of the fan debate about the bulky chest pieces in general, though the design team has done some cool things with them. The question is which one, if any, would suit Anti-Venom.
- DST is waiting to see how the BSG vehicles do before committing to others, such as Ecto 1.

Nice to see I’m not alone in wanting to see Anti-Venom without the chest piece. But really, wouldn’t it be best to give him the same treatment as the Ultimate Hulk Minimate and let the buyer adjust the look of the figure?
Having a Minimate Ecto 1 would be great, but wouldn’t that require having the Busters without their proton packs?
How would they solve that?
