It’s become something of an annual event at Minimate Multiverse for the customizer crowd to whip up a project to help give back to the world. Helmed by Multiverse member and long time HQ contributor Fujis, this project, dubbed CharityMates has been a tremendous success. The first event raised money for America’s Blood Centers by auctioning off custom Minimates based on various monsters and horror characters. The second event raised money for the World Wildlife Fund with customs of animal/human hybrids. Now this, the third CharityMates event, hopes to raise money for literary organization Books for Kids, which inspires the theme The Mind’s Eye, basing custom figures off of iconic characters from literature.
This year’s event has had 14 of the top customizers from the Minimate community lend their support with 18 one-of-a-kind figures up for auction. Bidding has already begun, so there’s only a short time before they’re gone, folks. Don’t let the opportunity to acquire one of these unique figures and help a child pass you by.

Just a correction: the print from Greg is for the customizers; not the buyers. I had hoped to have enough to send with each figure but I didn’t buy enough prints for that.

I just heard that Disney is buying Marvel. And I was wondering what ramifications this will have on the Marvel Minimates line?
Because as I was thinking this could possibly be the end for MM when the contract with AA/DST expires, and Disney does not want to renew with a company that would compete with their toy/collectables manufactors. We might never get that Kang, Baron Zemo or who ever you are waiting for to be made in two inch plastic. Is that why we are getting so many minimates this year?
Granted this is a doomsday scenario and all, but I just want answers for all us collecters.

Ramseesthegreat1 – I had heard about the Marvel acquisition as well, and like many MM collectors, I’m a bit nervous about the future.
Fact of the matter, it is a bit early to tell what’ll happen, as the extent of the merger/purchase/whatever hasn’t been disclosed yet.
As there’s no news to report, or any threads of a rumor to run with, I’m reluctant to run a story on the topic at this time. However, until there’s something more concrete to report, I can tell you that a discussion has sparked at Minimate Multiverse pondering what this might spell for the future.
And, yeah, I love the CharityMates too. It’s been a good project, with some good quality customs stemming from each session. I only wish I could have participated this year.
