Loading ...Marvel has posted the line-up for the upcoming 51st series of Minimates, this one featuring characters from the Marvel NOW!…well, event isn’t really the right word. Initiative? Reboot? Anyway, they are characters from Marvel NOW!.
The pairings will be:
- Superior Spider-Man & Nova (Sam Alexander)
- Shanna the She-Devil & Sauron
- Nick Fury Jr & SHIELD Heavy Agent
- Maria Hill & SHIELD Heavy Agent (variant)
Spider-Man is the least surprising figure of the set. He’s easy to produce since its just a blank Minimate painted to look like Spidey, plus there are unsubstantiated rumors that someone over at DST is kinda fond of ol’ webhead. Still, it is a bit bothersome that what is essentially an update to the red and black costume sees production ahead of other characters who have seen quite a bit more of an update to their designs. Still, given the uproar over the Spider-Man storyline of late, plus it can’t really be argued that Spidey doesn’t sell, he’s a good fit here.
Nova’s inclusion is surprising, given that we just got an army builder in series 50. Shanna and Sauron even more surprising. I haven’t really followed the Marvel NOW! stuff, but they don’t seem to be prominent characters in all the marketing. Given we haven’t seen these characters before in Minimate form, and a lot of people have wanted Sauron, I’d say they’re welcome additions. And everyone wants more SHIELD.
Overall, a pretty solid line-up.

These look great, and are very suprising. Can’t wait for the first person to complain about Spidey, because some cool accessories (Webs, webs, webs) could make it an awesome purchase. I do wish we could see a new Cyclops and Magneto, as well as some Guardians of the Galaxy and maybe Fearless Defenders.

The Superior Spider-Man costume is dangerously close to the Ultimate Spider-Man costume from the cartoon. That might make haters happier.
I was NOT expecting to see most of these. Sauron? Seriously? Hells YES!!!
I’m pretty stoked to see some b-listers included. I’m sure the TRU wave will have a few more standards like Hulk, Iron Man & Thor – but hopefully we’ll some more more of the obscure characters like Shanna in that selection too.
Shanna is a main character in the new Savage Wolverine book, I am quite stoked to get her and Sauron. Most likely going to skip the Spider-Man and Nova set, and Nick Fury Jr. is going to become Captain Steve Rodgers.
There is something amusing about Fury Jr. getting in the set after the fan vote wave. Anybody else feel like he’s part of a contingency plan to get the Commander Rogers figure out? I’m betting they have plans for some of the others too.

I haven’t read anything (yet) about this new Nova, but I like the design.
It would be nice if Superior Spider-man came with an accessory to reflect the storyline, a golden Octopus maybe?
If Ka-Zar is in the TRU assortment surely he must be paired with Sabu!
Shanna and Sauron are pretty much the only 2 i’ll for sure buy. i am quite surprised that we’re getting a Shanna before Ka-Zar. has Sauron been (or gonna be) featured in any Marvel NOW stories? i’ll be putting him on my X-Men villains display. based on his design, it makes me wish they’d given the Lizard a more detailed face.
i’ll probably try to pic up a Maria Hill individually, but i don’t care for any Shield Agents, and i haven’t really read any Nick Fury Jr or the new Nova character stories…
Spidey is no real surprise. I’m happy with the rest of the line up.
I dont know much on this Nova but design looks ok.
Shanna and Sauron I think will be in the new Wolverine comic based in the Savage Land.
Shield agents always go down well and I can see that Nick Fury being popular for head swap Steve Rogers.
No Ka-Zar, sorry. Not sure if he’s in the book, I haven’t heard anything. Heck, I haven’t even seen him in years. I remember enjoying the Andy Kubert series back in the day, but I don’t think Ka-Zar appeared in Shanna’s kinda recent mini-series (drawn by Cho again) at all.
That Shanna series was set in an alternate reality which would explain why there was no Ka-Zar. IIRC she was some kind of lab construct, completely different character.
If this is the Cho version shouldn’t she be packed with a dinosaur or monkey?
Zach, I love the surprise line-up of the wave, but is there any chance you guys can swap the variant so Son of Fury is the chase? it would be really easy to army build female SHIELD agents if you make Hill the standard pack out.

Great Surprises in wave 51 love Shanna the she devil! that alone is worth getting… surprise no Hulk Iron-Man made the wave.
Pretty nice surprise. None of these were on my must have or most wanted, but then again, I’m not going to turn them down either. Pretty good mix of Marvel Now! stuff. I really like the Sauron minimate. Now my 60′s X-men have someone to fight besides Magneto!
Weirdly the only one I am excited about is Maria Hill… maybe get extras and make a Daisy and Agent 13. Will have to make a custom Kazar though… can’t have Shanna tramping around without her hubby.
I like this wave. Sauron is the gem of this set, by far. I can’t wait to see the TRU wave, hopefully there will be some nice surprises, too. The last few waves fave been really nice, but I want to see more supporting characters like in the Jean DeWolf wave, or Alicia Masters from Wave 48.
I guess supporting characters are more likely to show up in the specialty store wave and I’d like to note that I’ve been very happy to receive them too.
The TRU wave will likely be NOW related, any guesses?
I bet we see the hulk (hopefully with R.O.B.) and iron man and captain America with one of the members of the avengers team

Not hoping for another Cap but it seems like a likely choice. Sunfire is a great choice, but I would much rather see Cyclops and Starlord. Wasp seems unlikely, but the theme of this wave seems to be random choices… Maybe the NOW! version of Cable and X-Force will appear. Thunderbolts? Honestly, I have no idea farther than Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, and maybe Cyclops. Hopefully they will go way out of the box and give us some new additions to the Avengers, like Shang-Chi and Manifold.
If it weren’t for the boxset, I would think Morbius. Who really knows the plan, though?
My ideal TRU assortment for the Marvel NOW! wave would be:
Cyclops and Magneto
Cable and Dr. Nemesis
Sunfire and Manifold
Starlord and Drax (With a Roccet Raccoon pack-in)

I’m more a fan of characters that will sit nicely in the 616 when all of this publicity grabbing dies down – so a Sunfire minimate would be great, as it’s just his classic look.
I’d like a classic Doc Nemesis before getting this techno-update, but i wouldn’t mind the new Cable – especially if it means we get a new sculpted bionic arm.
I’d Quite like a Spiral, too, since she’s part of the new X-Force. Although, again, i’d be more interested in a classic version than her updated look.

Since I only grab up the X-Universe minimates He’s going to be right at home.
How big is your collection seems to me that the x-men minimate are short of key mates like Pyro and Mistique etc…

There are huge pockets of Marvel that have yet to be touched – but seeing a wave that includes Sauron, Shanna, & Maria Hill fills me with hope that we may get close to having most of the characters we want to see made.
