Loading ...Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the third series of Walking Dead Minimates. The third series will focus on the prison storyline, and feature Rick in riot cop gear, and Tyreese and Hershell in prison garb. Plus Dexter. Plus zombies. It seems each character will be paired with a zombie, with Rick and Dexter being Toys R Us exclusives. The third series is expected to hit shelves in the spring.
Correction: Rick and Dexter will pull double duty with the TRU assortment, which has yet to be announced. Battle-damaged Tyreese will be the variant of the specialty assortment. Thanks Zach.
Highlighting the third series will be a contest judged by Robert Kirkman and DST. The contest will require participants to piece together a fan video using existing Walking Dead Minimates. The winner will receive an autographed copy of the Walking Dead Compendium, as well as autographed series 3 Minimates. Details are listed on the Skybound website.
Actually, all of those figures are the specialty assortment. Rick with Guard Zombie and Dexter with Dreadlock Zombie will be shared with TRU, Hershel with Farmer Zombie will be specialty-exclusive, and BD Tyreese will be the rare variant at specialty.

Well, I hope others find this announcement exciting. I’m not feeling it myself. Dexter’s ok I guess and I understand the need for the Rick variant, but for Hershel and Tyreese I’ll just have hope to see a more definitive version down the line.
On another topic, is there any idea as to when the multiverse might be back up?
I think the prison suit largely works for Tyreese and Hershal, because the majority of their lives (and Deaths) occured in the prison. Although I really like the zombies so far, I really wish DST would give more focus to the survivors, since this is a Walking Dead line and not a zombie one. Has anyone picked up series two yet? Anything paticularly good in it?

I guess for Hershel, I’d like a look that stands out more. Until we have more characters in the jumpsuits, Hershel looks like an escaped inmate, not a farmer/doctor. I personally like the more diverse look of the first two waves’ survivors.
Tyreese would work fine in the jumpsuit, but this isn’t a generic Tyreese in prison garb, its Tyreese from a very particular part of the comic, which means it isn’t practical for displaying with the other survivors.
Series 2 is my favorite so far. Amy and Adrea are both neat, Lori’s pretty essential, and Morgan’s just really well put together. Also the zombies are all pretty fun.
I might be wrong, but I think the only picture we have of Tyreese is the BD one, which is the variant. I think we will also get a normal Tyreese

There is no “normal” Tyreese in Series 2. He is a rare variant of Hershel. We have designed, prototyped and exhibited a civvies Tyreese, but not sure when he will get placed in a series.

BD Tyreese/Farmer (rare)
Notice that we no longer have a zombie two-pack, which means one more living survivor per assortment. Plus, TRU will get two different survivors and two new zombies.

That’s pretty cool, even though i liked the zombie two packs, it does certainly give us a wider range of characters for the series. This is a sad time for the multiverse to be down.
I’m really digging the Rick in riot gear, the expression on his face is straight out if the comic.

wouldn’t it make more sense to make the variant packed with the prison guard zombie?
we could use alot of prison guard zombies but i’m not sure why we’d want two of the farmers.
same thing happened w/ the sword in head zombie.
how many cowboys with a sword in their head do we really need?
its cool to customize him but more prison guard zombies would be better!
