Star Trek is back.

StarTrek.com has the first look at the upcoming assortment of Star Trek Legacy Minimates, representing highlights of most of the franchises. The first assortment will feature the pairings of:
- Admiral Kirk and Kahn (Star Trek II)
- Captain Picard and Borg Queen (Star Trek: First Contact)
- Captain Sisko and Jem Hadar (Deep Space 9, season 7)
- Captain Archer and Xindi (Enterprise)
Sure, we’ve seen a Picard and Sisko before, and we could staff an army of redshirts with all the Kirks we’ve gotten (with another one coming in the new Enterprise ship), but with four franchises represented here, hopefully there’s something for everyone, which will get this relaunch off on the right track, with many more characters to come.
These are slated for release later this year.
Looks awesome
I’m sold. This is exactly the kind of assortment I’d have chosen, with plenty of variety. It is a little Captain-heavy, though. I’m wondering if future series will feature lower ranking officers and if they’ll be popular enough to anchor a series.
And am I missing something? Where are the army builders and variants? Looks like DST is changing the formula to be more like DC Minimates, including a higher price.
I don’t miss the variants and army builders. I’d much rather have 8 all new characters, thank you. The Marvel Toys R Us waves don’t have variants or army builders either, so I don’t think this is a move to be more like DC. It’s not a new pattern, or exclusive to DC.
I’m not saying it was exclusive to DC or should have been. It’s just that DC used this formula and, despite decent sales, wasn’t profitable enough (according to DC Direct). As a collector, this is a great case pack. As a retailer? The fewer “rare variant chase figures,” the fewer cases retailers order, I suppose.
I just want to see the line succeed as much as Marvel’s has. Star Trek is a huge property with plenty of potential. Variants don’t have to be rare and DST can be sneaky with army builders. I like what they did with Gul Dukat in the last line by sneaking another tampo face on the back of his head.
Now I’m looking forward to seeing what the TRU assortment includes.
I love how there are 4 packs covering 4 different shows. I hope that formula works so we can get a variety in the characters. Sacrilegious of me but I only like STNG, Voyager and DS9 so I love that I don’t have to buy the originals in hope of getting more. AND I can finally have my BSG V ST battles in the same scale.
Finally a Sam Beckett to go with my Al!
Khan!!!
I wonder if we’ll also get Minimates from New Frontier and the new movies.
Not sure if the Legacy license covers the books but I know it doesn’t cover the new films. Given the stable of characters from TV and the first ten films, I think it might be a while before they go after characters from the novels.
That Sisko is in a pre mid season 5 uniform, not a season 7 uniform.
Okay, if we’re going to open the nitpicky can-o-worms… That’s more properly a Reptilian Xindi. Which were cool and all, but if Enterprise’s 2nd season, and third season had swapped places, the show might have made a full 7 year run. JMO.
ENT just strengthened my assertion that Trek does NOT belong on network TV. NBC cancelled TOS (twice), NBC cancelled the Emmy Award-winning animated series, UPN threatened to cancel VOY (its ratings in syndication saved it), but UPN cancelled ENT their execs’ meddling lost a good chunk of its audience.
I want Trek back on TV but not on a network that’s going to wreck the show. Find a showrunner who “gets it,” give them a decent budget, and leave them alone.
That said, I’ll take any and all ‘mates based on ENT, DS9, VOY, TNG, and TAS!
Glad to see them back. Really like the Khan and surprised to Enterprise series make an appearance.
Just makes me wonder will we see Janeway and Voyager in a later wave.
Yes, I am SOOO excited about these… but… am a bit disappointed with the updated figures in the line. DS9 is my favourite Trek by a long shot, but even I don’t need THREE Siskos!
I am a big fan of Street Fighter X Tekken. DST started the minimates line with lesser known characters and the line got cancelled. I get that they want to hold a few major players back, but now some essential characters from that series look like they’ll never get made. (no Paul Phoenix? No Jin? We get Poison but we don’t get Dhalsim??)
Should this line be starting with figures from Enterprise? Is that the strongest start? Enterprise over Voyager?
If I could tweak this series slightly have I would have had:
Kirk and Khan (ok, that set’ll be popular, but hope this is the last Kirk remake!)
Borg Queen and Data
Jam Hadar and Worf (DST has said Worf is someone they want to make)
Janeway and Seven of Nine
But that’s just me, don’t get me wrong, I will buy all of these and happily add them to my collection.
The best thing about the Ghostbusters minimates was, OK, we had the main characters in every outfit under the sun, but the line was popular enough to have all the lead cast and loads of obscure characters.
The least likely-to-be-made two pack I would love love love to see is DS9 lead villains Female Changeling and Weyoun (after they’d made an Odo of course!)
Very excited for these! As to the assortment, if I was only allowed to buy one of these? It’d be the Enterprise set. If I could only buy three? I’d leave the DS9. So there you go, different strokes and all that…
I grew up loving TNG and in the last 5 years or so I rediscovered DS9, but Enterprise and TOS were never big favorites of mine… still, that Kirk/Kahn set looks stellar and the Quantum Leap fan in me would love a Scott Bakula ‘mate…
My first thoughts on these are that I will love collecting this *entire* line. But the standouts to me have to be the Jem Hadar and grey collar Picard. Love what DST has done here. Can’t wait to see the TRU characters!
This is a fantastic line-up. Pairing a strong “Captain” with a villain is spot on. I’m going to order a case.
So glad to see this line return. 2013 is going to be expensive.
Kudos DST!!
Can’t wait for minimate versions of Worf (for Next Generations and Deep Space Nine and Data. Will be interesting to see what Seven of Nine looks like as a Minimate. How about minimate versions of Sisko and Dax in ‘Original Series’ dress from the time travel episode”Trials and Tribulations”?
Again, looks great, but is this a new series that begins with wave 1 or a continuation of the older mates?
Starting to think Zach timed these announcments with MMMV’s going down just to spite us. Spite Us I Say!
AHEM.
um
Yeah Star Trek?!?
just another MMMV refugee.
This is a new series, Star Trek Legacy Series 1.
Sorry people don’t like the line-up. We wanted to represent every show, and we went with who we felt was the strongest character from each show, the captain.
I do not think the DC line not being profitable had anything to do with the case assortment. Since most Star Trek aliens are army builders already, limiting them to one per series seems silly. There will be other aliens and other versions of these characters at TRU.
The higher price, 9.99 per pack, is a long-delayed inflation markup, not due to any matrix.
I’m betting locutus will be the Picard variant
Who doesn’t like the line-up? Seriously, there’s something for everyone in this! The Trek fanbase is notoriously fractured along series lines. The assortment has to grab everyone or risk only appealing to a segment (as I suspect was the case with the last TOS-heavy line).
As for the DC comparison regarding the lack of chase figures, as a collector, I’m not in it for the hunt. I HATE chase figures. But they do get retailers to buy more cases if they know they can sell those rare figures at a markup or if they have customers willing to buy a whole case to ensure they get that chase figure. We’ll see but I wouldn’t be shocked if DST ends up returning to the tried and true formula that is Marvel.
One more thing; Trek army-builder figures really need to have two faces whenever possible. I loved that trick with Gul Dukat and think it could work just as well with Klingons, Romulans, and others. Now bring on that TRU assortment, please!
I love the line up!
I’m not a ST fan but I recognize these characters and think the minimates look great! I will definetly be getting myself a set. Some good MM announcements this week, if only the Multiverse were up and running.
YES! I’m thrilled we’re *this close* to getting all the captains, here’s hoping Janeway will be at TRU. And hopefully first officers will come sweeping through in wave 2 — that’s what the collector in me wants first: the command pair from each franchise.
Welcome back, Star Trek (has it really been five years?) and rock on, DST!
First off, when is the Multiverse coming back???? It’s been almost a week now, and there hasn’t been much of an official statement. PLEASE get the MMV back up STAT! I’m having withdrawal!!
Second, HOORAY for Trek Minimates!!! I can’t wait for the TRU wave announcement!
For all the naysayers and people who don’t like the listed assortment, I think DST made a smart move here. It allows newcomers to start with the captains. The figures are different enough from what we have already (maybe not Sisko but I’m still getting a few). But the important issue here is that it’s perfect for *retailers* because it’s all heavy-hitters and aliens. Retailers don’t want to get stuck with unsold packs because of others cherry-picking all the rare variants!
Every assortment might not be MY ideal selection, but I’m going to trust DST on this line to keep the retailers happy (TRU & specialty) so we can get a long-lasting line!
I think this is a great line up. A strong 2nd wave could be: Trip Tucker and Shran the Andorian (with randon andorian face printed on back) from Enterprise, Movie Spock and Gen. Chang from Star Trek 6, Date (with Lore face on back) and Q from TNG, Worf and Quark from DS9, and lastly, The Doctor and a Hirogion(sp?) from Voyager!
As long as this line keeps going with new characters, I’m happy!
