Ask DST #171: Marvel, Star Trek, Femme Fatales

Art Asylum has the latest Minimates Q&A posted, with the range of topics covering Marvel, Marvel, Marvel, and maybe a little Star Trek or Femme Fatales. Below are the highlights.

  • Airwolf has been considered as a potential license to pursue.
  • While not cost effective to fill every set with flight stands and accessories, but DST tries when the budget allows.
  • DST is working out the line-up for 2013. Might be room for some re-do characters. Typically, they don’t aim to re-do a character, but if the line-up calls for someone that has been done before, they like to take the opportunity to improve upon it.
  • 2013 plan should be hammered out by NYCC (Editor’s note: don’t take that to mean that they’ll announce it at NYCC).
  • Always a chance for anyone from the Spider-books.
  • Despite posters showing Spider-Man in his web-shooting pose, general rule is to avoid fingers on Minimates if at all possible.
  • No plans for more Age of Apocalypse.
  • Probably not going to see smaller scale Minimates for characters like Carl from Walking Dead.
  • Always a chance for Shang-Chi or the Watcher.
  • Minimates MAX never caught on, probably because collectors wanted them articulated. (Ed. note: I thought the $80 price point was the biggest drawback, same with the failed attempt at playsets/displays.)
  • No plans for anything outside of the Minimate Enterprise, regarding Star Trek, though there is another movie coming up, which might spark more interest.
  • No plans for Sucker Punch.
  • With movie licenses, its hard to justify doing just Minimates; since Minimates carry a relatively small price point, there isn’t much room for profit once you cover licensing and production expenses.
  • With the majority of the Marvel Universe still left to do, plus three Marvel movies coming on 2013, there isn’t much room in the line plan for the All Winners Squad.
  • No plans for more Femme Fatales. Though Chuck is interested in the idea, the first two sets didn’t perform as well as they hoped.
  • No plans for anime, though that could change if the right opportunity presented itself.
  • No plans for Wolverine & the X-Men, since the Marvel license doesn’t include the cartoons.
  • No plans for Ultraviolet (the movie, not the digital movie download service, though I’d wager there’s no plans for that either)
